MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL May 2, 2024 Good morning, Newfound families! We will be sending out Quarter 3 report cards today. If your child is currently not passing literacy, math, science, or social studies we have also included information about summer competency recovery. SAS testing We will continue SAS testing the week after we return from spring break. We will start with our 8th-graders who will test in math, reading, and science during the week of May 6th. This will be followed by the 6th-grade testing the week of May 13th. Finally, we will be testing 7th-grade students the week of May 20th. Both 6th and 7th grades will test in math and literacy. Parents may opt their children out; however, I would strongly discourage you from doing so. When we have students opt-out of SAS testing, the school takes a zero as their score. This has a significantly negative impact on the school’s overall results, skewing results to appear more negative than they actually are. If you wish to opt-out for your child, please email Whitney Narrow at wnarrow@sau4.org for an opt-out form. SAS prep in math In the week prior to testing, our math interventionist will be working with math students to give them a final boost on essential SAS skills. This may involve students working in small groups with the math interventionist. Our goal is to prepare your child to perform their best both on the SAS and in years to come. These skills are essential in a successful transition to high school. 8th Grade Class Night Class night (also known as 8th-grade graduation) will be held at Newfound Regional High School on Monday, June 17th, from 6 to 8 p.m. We have shifted away from Kelley Park for several reasons, including lower cost for the event, better parking at the high school, and predictability (no last-minute, weather-dependent location changes).
